ABOUT ME
I have liked listening to music, singing, and dancing for as long as I can remember. When I was young, I liked to sing and dance for my family. At the age of 6, I was part of my school choir, and with them I made my first presentation singing in public. When I was 7 years old, I moved to the city of Cali, and when I was about 9 years old I started taking vocal technique classes. At the age of 11, I joined a musical theater group called OMG, where I participated for 3 years, performing in 3 plays: Hairspray, The Grinch, and Peter Pan. In the meantime, I continued taking private vocal technique lessons.
When I moved on to high school, at the age of 13, I had a music class in which we worked on one or two songs to present at the end of the school year. There was also a program called ‘Open Project’ in which we could choose a topic of our interest and create groups with our classmates. In the music group, we would propose songs to play and vote for the best ones. At the end of each school year, we presented to the whole school and our parents the songs that we worked on. Also, I was part of the official school band. We played at important school events and were in charge of the music in the theater performances the school organized every 2 years. A few examples of songs I got to play with the band include: Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen, Heal the World by Michael Jackson, Tornado by Jónsi, Can’t Stop the Feeling by Justin Timberlake, Sueña by Andrés Cepeda, among others.
On my 15th birthday, I sang five songs with my parents accompanying me on the guitar in exchange for dancing, as traditionally done in my country. Meanwhile, with my vocal technique teacher, I continued to improve my singing skills, and thanks to him I performed for the first time singing in a restaurant, I sang a song in Italian called ‘Meraviglioso Amore Mio’ by Arisa.
In 2019 I returned to Bogotá and started to get interested in the piano. In the new school, I entered I took the opportunity to get deeper into piano and started playing it in the school band. That same year, I went to Berklee Latino’s program in Bogotá for songwriting. The school where I was studying at the time was IB, so I had to do a personal project for which I decided to compose a song and that’s how ‘Free Fall’ became my first song; I wrote the lyrics and composed the piano lines by myself. A year after recording the song, I decided to upload it to streaming platforms under my stage name, Camila Vallejo.
Then I had to go to another school, where I was part of the band for a year and got to sing as a soloist at the end of the school year.
Currently, I continue to take private piano and music theory lessons. I am also studying at EMMAT, the Berklee Partner Institution in Bogotá, Colombia. And applying to universities abroad. I hope one day to become a singer-songwriter, I want to connect with people through my music and be able to go on tours around the world.
